You are at peace now, Miss James, and for that I am glad. Still, it's sad to know you are gone from those who loved and respected you and your way with a song.I was born (1938) and grew up on the Canadian prairies and learned, by listenning to CKCK AM radio, Regina, Saskatchewan, to love the blues and you, jazz and Ella, among others. I can relate to tough times and when I heard the pain in that great voice when you sang the sad songs it was authentic and touched me deeply. It was a blessing.

I was re-introduced to the continuing career and music of Etta James while stationed at Fort Ord, California in the mid-seventies with a fellow GI from Baltimore named Lawrence Gee. He played a selection from her "Come A Little Closer" LP and I was amazed at how wonderful she sounded. I have since collected other works by Etta James. I am truly saddened by her passing and my thoughts go out toher family at this time. She touched many lives and performed at many weddings with her song"At Last". TO MS. JAMESETTA "ETTA JAMES" Sons and Husband, MY FAMILY FROM EAST 21ST OFF CENTRAL AVE, BACK IN THE DAYS of the 1940'S & 1950'S , we are praying for you all.

STAY STRONG . CHERISH ALL OF YOUR PRECIOUS MEMORIES....
My oldest sister ( 20 yrs older than me ) attended elementary school with Jamesetta
and my first cousin. My sister was in the same classroom with Jamesetta. My family
also attended the same church as her family , St Paul Baptist Church in Los Angeles. As a child Etta shared her unique vocal talents to God first at St Paul. I had the privilege in sharing my story with Etta in the 1983, she spoke very kind to me. Since I called her Ms. Jamesetta, she laughed and asked if I went to school with her. I laughed too, I wasn't born yet.
I enjoyed her concerts at the traditional
Monterey Jazz festivals.
I BELEIVE SHE MADE IT INTO HEAVEN
P.S.
SHE DOES strongly RESEMBLE MINNESOTA FATS, NOW SHE KNOWS FOR SURE WHO HER BIOLOGICAL WAS. My husband beat Fats playing pool every time they played each other. That is for you Etta (smile from heaven)
NEVERTHELESS, ETTA WAS LEAD
BY HER FAITH IN GOD WHO RENEWED HER STRENGTH WHEN SHE NEEDED IT.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO LISTEN TO YOUR
SOULFUL MUSIC....

In her unstoppable boldness created music until shortly before she passed on into eternity.I have not listened to all of her last CD "Dreams",but will most certainly add that to my collection as well as her autobiography "Rage To Survive". She accomplished what all singers hope to. She Rocked and Rolled until the end of her life. And is evidenced by her last and final CD cover. She was bold indeed.Bold and Beautiful inside and out. I'll never forget the first time I heard Etta James' "At Last" at that moment I became a fan of hers. Being 28 it is very rare to find people who can sit and actually appreciate good music like Etta's. I got to see her performe at the Concord Povilian in 2007 with Al Green and B.B. King, and it was AMAZING. I cried I think through her whole set. She was an amazing woman. After watching "Cadillac Records" and learning a little more about how she got big in the business I admired her strength even more. She was a greatly talented woman and will remain a legend. I play her music for my young children, who I am making sure can appreciate good REAL music. She is loved and will forever be missed. Rest in Peace Etta.

I first saw Etta James at a park festival in 1989, in Corvallis, Oregon. When I heard her sing for the first time, I fell in love with her music and person. Unfortunately I never got to see her perform again. Just a few days before she died I happened to be in Hasting and saw a CD of her love songs. I started researching her on the internet. I spent day and night getting caught up watching performances. Wow! She held such power. Here she was sick, and gathering all her fans for her death. I don't know what made me tune in or think about her. Even though I didn't follow her career every minute, it was that one performance that will stay with me for a life time. Etta you will always be in my heart. I miss you, but I know your out there free and singing. I will forever think of you when I light my candles. Love forever Rose

My sympathy to The James family and friends. To see her was electric. From her low bluesy growl to her high pitched wail. Every song she touched she put the Etta stamp on it, "Sail Away, St.Louis Blues, Leave Your Hat On"... and yes, "At Last".
No one will ever sing her signature song like she did, those of us who have loved her for decades know that. That generations will find her and appreciate her raw energy and talent is her legacy.

Etta, Thank you for sharing your life with me. I met you in the 60's in Detroit at the Chit Chat lounge and have been in love with your spirit and inspiration ever since. I was living in a small apartment over the club and was in the window singing one day and you came outside and asked who was that singing, i said it was me. you looked at me and asked how old i was? "Nine"I responded and you said "not bad" "not bad".I admired your courage and strength to keep moving on in spite of the hardships and obstacles that have been in your life. i still find your intense emotional music soul stirring. i pray that you have past on your talent to a deserving soul and that you can rest assured that your spirit will live on for years to come through the voices of our tomorrow. i love ya girl, you are so beautiful to me.

When I turned 50 years old I wrote a list of 50 things I wanted to do and "meet Etta James" was on that list, because at 50 years of age I started singing publicly and I had always loved Etta James, the soul and spirit of her and her music- it was her songs and her music I feel most comfortable singing, which ultimately saved my life during some of the most difficult times I had ever faced. I will alway love her, and be grateful to Ms. Etta James- I am just sorry I never met her.
